NEWSREADER: The Australian Conservation Foundation says it's disappointed with Rio Tinto's response to its questions about rehabilitating the Northern Territory's Ranger Uranium Mine. Rio Tinto is the parent company of Energy Resources of Australia, which said in its annual report it might require more funding for rehabilitation if its underground mine is not developed.
Rio Tinto Australia's AGM was held in Melbourne yesterday and the foundation's Dave Sweeney asked the board to guarantee Ranger would be fully rehabilitated. He says Rio Tinto's response was partial and legalistic.
DAVE SWEENEY: Rio Tinto is the parent company of Energy Resources of Australia and Rio Tinto must be ultimately responsible and will be closely watched and long judged by the actions of Energy Resources of Australia in Kakadu.
