The Northern Territory Government says it is investigating a security breach at the Ranger uranium mine near Jabiru in Kakadu National Park.
Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) says a vehicle left the mine site on Sunday evening before being tested for contamination.
ERA says the vehicle had been cleaned prior to leaving the site but had not been authorised to leave.
Territory Mines and Energy Minister Willem Westra van Holthe says his department is investigating the incident.
"We want to get to a place where we make sure that this type of incident cannot occur in the future," he said.
ERA says tests conducted back at the mine site confirmed the vehicle was not contaminated.
Federal Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane says he won't consider further action until police and the Territory Government investigations conclude.
