"Kakadu traditional owners have supported the commitment by mining giant Rio Tinto to stump up the cash to fully cover the rehabilitation of the Ranger Uranium Mine.
Rio Tinto has announced today that it will underwrite the sale of new shares in operator Energy Resources of Australia to raise almost $500m.
The Mirarr traditional owners say they expect the full amount will be needed for rehabilitation along with ongoing Commonwealth investment in monitoring and management for long term protection of the environment."
